Every year local florist are tasks to interpret a piece of art using live florals. In 2021, I was paired with Simone Leigh’s Corrugated. I was aligned to Leigh’s work being so interconnected to Blackness and beauty. I used flowers originated in Africa in additional to classic American florals that are easily accessible and affordable. I wanted to showcase the mixed media of things that are sacredly intangible , yet , that could be found at a local corner store. Much like Black beauty - I wanted to capture rooted divinity.
